Summer Research with AFRL and More!

I had the pleasure of attending the APS Four Corners Regional Meeting in Logan, UT this past weekend. In addition to the great physics talks, I learned about the AFRL Scholars Program that has openings for high school, community college, and undergraduate students, and also has internship opportunities for professional educators! This program lists specific projects and their mentors at various Air Force Research Labs throughout the US that you can join for paid summer research opportunities. You can learn more about the projects and mentors here. I’m especially excited to see cold atom experimental opportunities for high school students and teachers at AFRL Kirtland here in Albuquerque, NM!

In addition, the DOE Community College Internships and Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships are open for Summer 2024! These are not quantum-specific, but there is a LOT of quantum research going on at the DOE National Labs. DOE Labs with quantum programs include:

  • Sandia National Labs in both Albuquerque, NM and Livermore, CA,
  • Brookhaven National Lab in Upton, NY,
  • Argonne National Lab in Argonne, IL,
  • Fermi National Lab in Batavia, IL,
  • Lawrence Berkeley National Lab in Berkeley, CA,
  • Lawrence Livermore National Lab in Livermore, CA,
  • Los Alamos National Lab in Los Alamos, NM,
  • National Renewable Energy Lab in Golden, CO,
  • Oak Ridge National Lab in Oak Ridge, TN,
  • Pacific Northwest National Lab in Richland, WA, and
  • Jefferson Lab in Newport News, VA.

These internships are a great opportunity for you to get involved in quantum computing, quantum information science and engineering, and related areas as well as many other scientific research areas.

Last but not least, we have new undergraduate internships in industry posted at Quantinuum and Keysight! Check out the Opportunities tab for additional camps, internships, and research experiences specifically for your education level.
